Most repairs come back to a short list of causes. Slates dropping one at a time because the nails have rusted through. Cracked or slipped tiles after a windy night. Roof types change street by street in Woking
Victorian terraces near the station carry natural slate. The bigger interwar houses through Horsell and Hook Heath have clay tile with complicated hips and a lot of lead. The post-war estates at Goldsworth Park and Sheerwater were built with concrete interlocking tile. Roof types vary street by street here more than almost anywhere else we work.
That matters, because the right repair on one house is the wrong repair on the next. Slate wants a proper tingle or a relay, never a smear of mastic. Post-war concrete tile goes porous and starts shedding grit into the guttering long before it actually leaks. Handmade clay on the older detached houses has to be handled carefully or you break three getting one out.

Flat roofing for Woking garages and extensions
Every one of the post-war estates has flat roofed garages, and most Woking houses that have been extended have a flat roof over the back. We fit fibreglass and felt. GB Roofing is a Restec trained and approved installer, which means we can use Flexitec, a glass reinforced system that overlays most existing surfaces without a full strip, and GRProof, traditional fibreglass laid on a new deck. When the installation is registered with Restec, the materials carry a 20 year guarantee from Restec. We also lay three layer torch on felt, pour and roll, and built up systems where that is the sensible choice.
Chimney repairs and leadwork
The Victorian terraces have shared stacks, and the interwar houses often have two or three of their own. What fails is nearly always the mortar and the lead rather than the brick itself. We repoint, renew flashings and soakers, refit pots and cowls, rebuild the top courses where they have blown, and take down stacks that are no longer used and make the roof good over them. If a chimney is redundant and letting water in, removing it is often cheaper than rebuilding it.
Tiled roofing and roof tile replacement across GU21 and GU22

Tile work here runs from replacing half a dozen cracked concrete tiles on a Goldsworth Park semi to relaying a whole slope of clay on an older Horsell house. We match what is already there wherever the tile is still available. Where it is not, we look for reclaimed stock or move sound tiles onto the elevation people see. Ridge and hip tiles bedded in old mortar are a job in their own right, and re-bedding them dry with mechanical fixings lasts far longer than repointing something already loose.
New roofs on Woking houses
A re-roof is the right call when you are replacing the same few tiles every winter, when the battens have gone along with the felt, or when there is no underfelt at all, which is common on the older terraces.
The job is the same in principle whatever the house. Strip the covering, check and replace battens and any rafter that has suffered, fit a breathable membrane, then relay with new or reclaimed tile or slate, with fresh leadwork at the abutments and valleys. On the larger Horsell and Hook Heath roofs there is far more lead involved than on a straightforward semi, and that is where the extra time goes.

Fascias, soffits and guttering
The post-war estates around Woking were built with timber fascia and soffit, and plenty of it is still the original. Once the fascia softens, the guttering it carries drops out of level, and water that should be going down the pipe goes down the brickwork instead.
We replace fascias, soffits and guttering in uPVC, fit new downpipes, and close the roofline up properly so birds and squirrels stay out of the eaves. Doing the whole roofline in one visit usually works out better than one elevation at a time. If the timber is still sound and only the guttering has failed, we will tell you that and price the guttering alone.
West Byfleet, and out towards Chobham and Guildford

Yes. Small jobs are a big part of what we do in Woking, and a single slipped tile dealt with now is far cheaper than the wet batten and rotten felt it turns into if it is left. We will tell you honestly if it really is a one tile job, and we will tell you just as honestly if the rest of the slope is on its way out.
That is usually nail sickness. The nails holding the slates have rusted through, so slates let go one at a time with no obvious pattern. Refixing individual slates buys you time, but once several have gone in a season the rest are on the same clock. At that point a strip and relay, with new battens and membrane, is the sensible spend rather than an annual repair.
A straightforward semi is normally a few days to about a week once scaffolding is up, depending on the size, the pitch and how much leadwork is involved. Bad weather stretches it, and we would rather wait a day than lay a roof in driving rain. We give you a realistic start date and keep you posted if anything moves.
For a full re-roof or any work along the roofline, yes. We arrange it ourselves, and the cost of it is set out in the estimate before you agree to anything, so nothing appears later that you did not expect. Smaller repairs can often be done from a tower or ladder access, which keeps the cost down. We will tell you how long it will be standing outside the house.
