Where most of our work starts
Most people ring a roofer because something has gone wrong. A stain on the ceiling, a tile in the garden after a windy night, or guttering that spills down the wall every time it rains. GB Roofing has been fixing those problems across Surrey and London for many years, and we still do the big jobs too, from a full re-roof to a new fibreglass flat roof.
What we do, from a slipped tile to a whole new roof
We are general roofers, which means one call covers the lot. Most weeks we are up on pitched roofs replacing broken tiles and re-bedding ridges. Other weeks we are stripping a roof back to the rafters and building it up again with new membrane, battens and tiles. The aim is the same on every job, whether the house is a 1930s semi or a brand new extension. Get it watertight, make it look right, leave it tidy.

Pitched roofs and flat roofs are two different jobs
A pitched roof sheds water because of its slope. When one leaks, the cause is usually simple. A cracked or missing tile, a ridge that has lost its bedding, or flashing that has pulled away where the roof meets a wall or a chimney. Our tiled roofing work covers all of that, from swapping a handful of tiles to retiling the whole roof in clay, concrete or slate, matching the colour and profile of what is already there.
A flat roof behaves differently. It has nowhere to shed water to, so it lives or dies on the covering and the falls underneath it. We install fibreglass GRP flat roofs, three layer torch-on felt, traditional pour and roll felt, and built-up systems. Garages, dormers, porches and single storey extensions are the usual candidates.
When a roof has finally had enough, patching stops making sense. A new roof means taking the old covering off, checking the timbers underneath, then rebuilding with new membrane, battens and tiles. It is a serious spend, so we will tell you honestly if your existing roof still has years left in it.

What one call to us actually covers
Four different kinds of roofing work, all done by the same firm, so nobody has to be chased for the bit in between.
- Pitched roofs. Slipped and cracked tiles, re-bedded ridges and hips, new valleys, and full re-tiling in clay, concrete or natural slate to match what is already there.
- Flat roofs. Fibreglass GRP and built-up felt, torch-on or traditional pour and roll, on garages, dormers, porches and single storey extensions.
- Roofline and rainwater. uPVC fascias, soffits, bargeboards and guttering, replaced as one run so the water coming off the roof ends up in the gutter and not on the brickwork.
- Chimneys and leadwork. Repointing, flaunching, rebuilds and removals, with the soakers, aprons, back gutters and flashings dressed by us rather than sent out to another trade.
A free estimate and a straight answer
We do not charge to come and look, and we will not talk anyone into a new roof they do not need. A good number of the jobs we get called to turn out to be half a day’s work. When that is the case, we say so and price it as a repair.
Restec trained and approved for fibreglass flat roofs
Restec is a British manufacturer that has been making GRP fibreglass and liquid flat roofing systems for around forty years, with the products made here in the UK. We are a Restec trained and approved installer, so we can fit their Flexitec and GRProof systems and register the finished job with them. Registered installations qualify for a 20 year materials guarantee from Restec, which is only available through installers Restec has trained and approved.
The job is not finished until the site is clear
Roofing makes mess. Old tiles, felt, nails and mortar all have to come off before anything new goes on. Our tidying up is part of the job rather than a favour, and the rubbish leaves with us. Customers tell us this is the thing they remember most, which says a lot about the trade.
Guttering, fascias and chimneys cause more damage than people expect
Guttering is the part of the roof people notice last and pay for first. Water running down a wall for two winters does far more harm than one missing tile. Split joints, sagging runs, soffits with rot in them and fascias that have started to soften are all fixable, and all of it costs less than the damp it leads to.
We replace fascias, soffits and guttering in low-maintenance uPVC, either as a repair or as a full roofline replacement while the access is already in place. Chimney repairs cover repointing, new flashings, capping, rebuilding a stack that has moved, and taking one down altogether if it is no longer used. Leadwork on valleys and flashings often goes hand in hand with both.

We sheet up, keep the drive usable where we can, and clear up at the end of each day instead of leaving one big pile for the final morning.

Age on its own is a poor guide. Look at the felt showing at the eaves. If it is torn and crumbling, and tiles are slipping in more than one place, patching turns into a yearly cost and a re-roof starts to make sense. If the felt is sound and the damage sits in one area, a repair is usually the right call. We will tell you which one you are looking at before you spend anything.

Most house re-roofs take a few days to a couple of weeks. What moves the figure is the size and pitch of the roof, how many chimneys and valleys are involved, and what we find once the old covering is off and the timbers are visible. Weather adds days on top. You get a realistic timescale with the estimate and an update from us if it changes.
There is no standard price, because a repair might be one tile or a rebuilt valley. What drives the cost is access, whether scaffold or a tower is needed, how much material has to come off, and how much of the structure underneath has been affected. A small repair reached safely from a ladder is a modest job. We price each one after looking at it, free of charge.

We can often carry out a temporary fix to stop the water quickly and return for the permanent repair once conditions allow. Safe access comes first, so nobody goes up in high winds.
Fibreglass GRP is formed in place as one continuous surface with no joints, needs almost no maintenance, and lasts a great deal longer than a felt covering. Felt is laid in layers, either torch-on or the traditional pour and roll method, and costs less up front. Fibreglass suits balconies, dormers and anywhere that gets walked on. Felt is still a sound choice for a garage or an outbuilding.
