GB Roofing Reviews from Homeowners Across Surrey and London

Grant has worked on roofs across Surrey, Middlesex and London for many years, and a good deal of the work still comes by recommendation. Here is what customers say about how the job went.

Read them and judge for yourself

Choosing a roofer is mostly a question of trust. You cannot see the work from the ground, and most people only need a roof once or twice in a lifetime. The reviews below were written by customers after the job was finished. Read them and see whether the same things keep coming up.

In their words

In their own words

Every one of these was written by a real customer of GB Roofing.

Roof strip, then providing new felt, battens and replacing broken tiles

“Grant is clearly very knowledgable and carried out the work very professionally. He is a good communicator and always took time to alert us and agree to any changes in timings well ahead of the event. His quote was competitive and we felt we received a personal service from someone who took pride in his work - really all you could hope for from a firm offering this type of service.”

David Gibbins

A new garage roof and a repair to the valley on the main house roof.

“Grant kept in touch as to when they could start work as materials needed to be ordered. Grant and his work mate always turned up on the day stated, and were always on time. They were polite and hard working , despite the rain. They left the site clear of any rubbish at the end of the each day. They kept us updated of the works completed that day.”

Linda Wardley

Chimney flashing repair, replace broken tiles.

“Excellent. Having been messed around by other roofers who either did not respond to my calls or gave me unrealistically high quotes it was an absolute pleasure to find Grant. He quickly responded to my queries, gave an honest quote and was able to fit me in at short notice because of the urgency of the job. I highly recommend him.”

Richard Willmott

Replace old felt roof

“Have used grant before for removing chimney and putting in eave trays, he replaced the old felt for new and kept me updated on what was done, always cleans up at the end of the day and very friendly team, really good job done again Will highly recommend the company”

Cheryl Parris

Identify issue with leaking roof and fix

“Grant was really quick to respond. Came out same day as leak and identified problem. Came back within a few days and carried out fixes including new eaves trays, gutter and tiles. Job completed on time and budget and cleaned up everything after work. Great job.”

Brian Carlson

Roof repair

“We had contacted many roofing companies over the past two years to fix an ongoing issue with our roof. We eventually were recommended to contact GB for a quote. Grant was knowledgeable, reliable, punctual, and honest. A superb job done.”

Jan Baddock

Trustworthy friendly and honest

“Grant was great. He came and had a look, told me what he thought needed doing, and also what the pitfalls could be. As it turned out the roof substructure was sound which was great. Cheerful, friendly and reliable chap.”

Michael Wrigley

Great service

“We’ve used Grant of GB Roofing on several occasions. We have found them to be competitive on price, reliable, tidy in their work and I would have no hesitation in recommending him.”

Turning up when we said we would

Roofing depends on weather and on materials arriving, and both can move. What we can control is telling you early when something changes, rather than leaving you waiting in on a morning when nobody is coming.

If we say Tuesday, we aim to be there Tuesday. If tiles are on back order or the forecast turns, you hear it from us before the day rather than after it. It is a low bar, and it is the one most people say the last roofer failed to clear.

Clearing up at the end of every day

A roof strip makes a serious mess. Old tiles, perished felt, torn battens, broken slate and a lot of rusty nails, and none of it politely stays on the driveway.

We clear as we go. Rubbish goes in the skip or the van, drives get swept, and paths are left safe to walk on overnight. It matters most on nails, because a nail in a car tyre or a child’s foot is a genuinely bad end to a good job. If you are living in the house while the work is on, you should be able to use your own front door without picking your way through debris.

Honest advice, even when it loses us the bigger job

Roofs are easy to exaggerate. Nobody can see the state of yours from the pavement, so a roofer can say almost anything about it and be believed. Some do.

Our approach is to tell you what we found and show you photographs of it. If the timbers are sound, we say so. If a roof has years left in it, we say that too, even though a full re-roof would be worth a great deal more to us than the repair you actually need. It costs us work in the short term. It is also the reason people ring back years later and recommend us to neighbours.

Being told a repair will do instead of a new roof

Most leaks are not a failed roof. They are one small fault in one specific place. A cracked or slipped tile, a failed lead flashing at a chimney or abutment, a blocked valley, a gutter joint that has come apart, an eaves tray that was never fitted properly.

Find that fault and fix it and the leak stops, for a fraction of the cost of replacing everything. That is what we look for first, before anyone starts talking about a new roof.

There is a point where a repair stops being sensible, and we will tell you when you reach it. If the felt has perished across the whole roof, the battens are soft, and you are patching a different spot every winter, you are paying repeatedly for something that will keep failing. When that is the honest answer you will get it, with the reasons, and you can take your time deciding.

How to leave feedback about your job

If we have worked on your roof, we would like to know how it went. Email grant@gbroofingservices.co.uk with a line about the job and what you thought of it, or tell Grant while he is still on site. If you found us through a review site or a recommendation, leaving a few words in the same place helps the next person locally to make their mind up.

If something is not right, say so, and say it early. Every new project we take on is backed by a full guarantee, and any issue is far easier to put right while the scaffolding is still up than six months later. Call 01932 690 995 and tell us what you have noticed.

How to read roofing reviews properly

Score numbers on their own tell you very little. Look for reviews that name the actual job, say what the roofer found, and describe how a problem was handled rather than only that everything was lovely. Look for local place names you recognise, and look for people saying they used the same firm again. Then ask the roofer to show you photographs of a similar job before you commit.

Questions

Common questions

Yes. Every review on this page comes from a customer who had work carried out by GB Roofing on their own home in Surrey, Middlesex or London, and it is published in the words they sent us. If you would like to speak to a customer rather than read about one, ask Grant when he comes out to price your job and we will see who is happy to have a word.

Reliability and tidiness, more than anything technical. Turning up on the day that was agreed, telling people early when weather or materials move things, clearing rubbish at the end of each day rather than the end of the job, and being told straight what the roof actually needs. Price matters too, and what matters most there is that the final bill matches the written estimate you were given.

Ask when you call and we will do our best. We work throughout Addlestone, Cobham, Weybridge, West Byfleet, Oxshott, Chertsey, Esher, Woking, Lightwater and Bagshot, so there is usually a job within a mile or two of you. We can show you photographs of similar roofs and, where the customer is happy for us to, point out a road where we have worked.

Email grant@gbroofingservices.co.uk with a sentence or two about the job and how it went, or mention it to Grant while he is on site. If you found us on a review site or through a recommendation, adding your comments in the same place is the most useful thing you can do, because that is where your neighbours will look when their own roof starts leaking.

Tell us straight away. Call 01932 690 995 and describe what you have noticed, and we will come back and look at it. Every new project is backed by a full guarantee. Problems are always simpler to sort out early, particularly while access equipment is still on site, so please do not sit on a concern waiting to see if it gets worse.

Often, yes. People come back for a different part of the roof after a first repair, or ring again when they move house, and new enquiries often begin with a neighbour passing our number on. That is the way we would rather grow, which is why we will lose a job by giving honest advice before we will win one by overselling. Ask Grant when he comes out and he will tell you about work near you.

No. Our strapline is quality at prices that aren’t through the roof, and customers regularly describe the quotes as competitive and reasonable. You get a free estimate, in writing, with the work set out so you can compare it fairly against anyone else. What you should be wary of is the opposite, a quote so low that corners are being planned in before the ladder goes up.
