Fascias, soffits and guttering
Guttering is often the first thing to give up on a big roof, because there is a lot of water to move and long runs to move it along. On the deeper Weybridge houses we regularly find original half round guttering struggling with the volume off a large pitch, joints weeping at every union, and a green stain running down the render below.

Because the fault is almost certainly at a junction rather than a hole in the tiling. Lead flashings, valleys and abutments only fail once enough water is pushed at them from the right direction. In light rain the roof copes. In a storm the water backs up and finds the crack. That is why these leaks get blamed on a broken tile that turns out to be fine.
